error pushing container to registry | WSL2

erro happens when I run

doctl registry login

Logging Docker in to registry.digitalocean.com
Notice: Login valid for 30 days. Use the --expiry-seconds flag to set a shorter expiration or --never-expire for no expiration.
Error: error storing credentials - err: exec: "docker-credential-desktop.exe": executable file not found in $PATH, out: ``

I get this error when I try to login to push a container to registry. I am on a work machine in using WSL2

I’ve been working thru these docs and this was the first error I couldn’t get passed. would love some insight on this thanks for your help and DigitalOcean

The error you’re encountering is likely due to WSL2 trying to invoke a credential helper that’s available on Windows (like docker-credential-desktop.exe) but isn’t accessible from the WSL environment. Here’s how you can work around it:

Switch to a Standard Docker Login: Instead of relying on the doctl registry login, try using Docker’s own login command with your DigitalOcean credentials:

docker login registry.digitalocean.com

This command should prompt you for your DigitalOcean credentials or token. Ensure that you use a DigitalOcean API token with read and write access to the registry.
